Section1Introduction to the Workshop

Let's begin the workshop by introducing ourselves and seeing an outline of what we'll be doing.

Subsection1.1First pass on details

First, let's briefly introduce ourselves, and a little bit of how we got started using PreTeXt, or PTX. I bet many of you will have similar stories of wanting to do something creative while making it easily available to students.

Here is a brief outline of the workshop. Today should look more or less like this:

  • Introduction

  • Discussion in small groups

  • Why use PTX? A discourse

  • Gallery of Examples

  • Get Set with Tools

  • Writing your First Document

The workshop continues on Saturday. There is some flexibility depending on your interest, as a group.

  • Welcome back and review

  • Working/Troubleshooting time on your first document

  • Various High-Demand Topics:

    • How to do common things like tables and links

    • Creation of WeBWorK or Sage cells

    • Mastering the art of cross-references

    • Structure and design importance, despite the rigidity

    • Common ‘gotchas’, especially with respect to

  • Book authoring: A personal journey

We will try to aim for flexibility rather than hew too closely to this, though!
